Green building was the primary focus of this 4-story, 108,000 sq. ft. office building located along the St. Clair river in Port Huron, Michigan. The building was designed with a number of environmentally-friendly features, including natural lighting throughout, a bioswale for rainwater runoff, and green plantings on the 3-story, 400 space parking ramp to reduce urban water runoff and the “heat island effect” common to cities. Here, too, light-colored surfaces have been used to improve reflectivity and emissivity which have a significant impact on the cooling load of a building.
