The Spartan Stadium expansion and renovation added a new ten-story sky box structure to the stadium, featuring 24 luxury suites, 862 club seats, 1,700 new upper deck seats, press boxes, office space, and new concessions space. Originally built in the 1920s, with a major expansion in 1956, the stadium needed foundation modifications to carry the additional load of the expansion. Hydraulically pushed micropiles (HPM) were determined to be the best solution, as the micropiling equipment fits into very narrow spaces with little overhead clearance, and where vibrations from traditional pile driving equipment can damage the existing structure. The HPMs eliminated the need for demolition of existing walls, thus saving demolition and reconstruction costs, as well as 4 to 5 weeks on the schedule.

Synthetic turf was installed at Howell High School’s athletic field in Howell, Michigan. Synthetic turf is virtually indistinguishable from grass and has a number of advantages over traditional grass playing fields: it is safe to play on in most weather conditions, it requires less maintenance, uses no fertilizer, and has value as a water conservation measure.
