What do you love about the construction industry?
I like that the construction industry is constantly evolving. There is never a dull moment when the projects you are working on are always changing, when there is new technology being integrated into our daily tasks, and knowing that each day will be different than the one before.
Advice you would give other women entering our field?
Make connections and build a vast network, have a mentor and utilize them for advice and support, find a great team and rely on them/learn from them, and always ask questions when you don’t understand something.
Your favorite project to date and why?
My favorite project happens to be one of the first projects I was assigned to work on as a project engineer not long after I started in the industry. I was required to be on site daily and did various tasks where I learned so much from seeing the building be built and the changes that took place every day. This project is memorable to me because I feel that I would not have learned so quickly during that time and I would not have grown as much professionally without that opportunity.
What professional organizations are you a part of or recommend?
I have been involved with the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Detroit Chapter #183 since 2016 and I feel that NAWIC has been beneficial to my development as a young professional. NAWIC has also helped me make connections with mentors and friends and I have been able to create a good network of like-minded women within the industry.
What are your hobbies or what do you like to do in your spare time?
My hobbies include traveling and being adventurous, cooking, and gardening/tending to my house plant collection.
